This Privacy Policy outlines how Commonplace collects, uses, and discloses information about you through our services, which include our web application and web extension. These platforms allow users to highlight, comment on webpages, and save articles along with their comments and highlights. This policy applies to your interactions with us across these services, including any customer service communications and other interactions.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this policy and may provide additional notice, such as by sending you an email or posting a notice on our services.

Collection of Information

Information You Provide to Us

When you use our services, we collect information you provide directly, such as when you:

  • Highlight text
  • Comment on webpages
  • Save articles

This information includes your email address, encrypted password, and any content you create, like highlights and comments.

Information from Google OAuth

For users logging in via Google OAuth, we collect information allowed by Google's authorization processes, including names and email addresses.

Our services automatically collect certain information about your interaction and usage, such as:

  • Device and Usage Information: We collect information about how you access our Services, including data about the device and network you use, such as your hardware model, operating system version, mobile network, IP address, unique device identifiers, browser type, and app version. Supabase Services

We use Supabase for authentication and data storage services, meaning information processed through our services, including account details and content, is managed by Supabase.

We share your information as follows:

  • With Supabase: For necessary authentication, storage, and management services.
  • For Legal Reasons: When required by law or to protect our rights, users, and services.

We commit to not selling your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

Your Choices

  • Managing Account Information: You can modify or delete your account information through the service settings. Deletion requests are subject to legal or operational retention requirements.
  • Cookie Preferences: Browser settings can be adjusted to manage cookies and other tracking technologies.

International Data Transfers

Information, including that held by Supabase, may be stored and processed in any country where Supabase operates, under safeguards to protect your privacy.

CI/CD Tools

We may use third-party Service Providers to automate the development process of our Service.

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from Children under 13. If you become aware that a Child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from Children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.
